As El Nino continues over the winter months, another major storm system is tracking over the South. The setup produced what's referred to as a "particularly dangerous situation" by the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
Early Tuesday, the agency predicted a moderate risk of severe weather extending all the way from New Orleans into the Florida Panhandle.
Severe storms got off to an early start and by 12:15 p.m., a video surfaced on social media of waterspouts tracking over Lake Pontchartrain, just north of New Orleans.
The storm that produced the waterspouts also prompted a tornado warning before and after it tracked over the lake.
The main funnel is considered a tornadic waterspout -- essentially a tornado over water.
The two smaller waterspouts on either side are likely satellite tornadoes, rotating around the main funnel. Multiple tornadoes like this are usually associated with big, strong supercellular thunderstorms.
