Sometimes travel is unavoidable during severe weather. Here are some tips to help guide you on your trip.
By Air:
If possible, be sure to book your flights in advance, with the fewest number of connections. Choosing an airline with multiple flights to your destination will greatly improve your chances of finding an alternate flight. Read more bad weather air travel tips here.
Remember, if you get bumped from a flight, you are eligible to be compensated. More can be found at U.S. Department of Transportation Expands Airline Passenger Protections website.
By Train:
Because some platforms can be outside, be sure to dress appropriately for adverse conditions. Also remember that it can be slippery when boarding and exiting the train
Many Amtrak customers can get refunds if they choose not to travel. Some reservations can be modified or canceled using Amtrak.com. Passengers can also check the Service Alerts and Notices page for the latest information.
By Car:
Remember, this is your shelter. If you know you're going to be in your car for a long period, make sure you monitor your gas use. If you get stuck you may need it to protect you during the storm.
