Despite a cold front passing through the state, above average temperatures are in metro Atlanta’s forecast, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Temperatures were 78 degrees in Atlanta, 69 in Blairsville and 71 in Griffin just at 10 p.m. Monday.

Atlanta reached a high of 87 degrees by 5 p.m. The average temperature this time of the year is 81 degrees, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

“We’ll look for some spots that could get near 90 degrees,” she said. “… A lot of sunshine behind the front. It’s going to feel quite nice and then mostly clear skies going into the late afternoon, early evening.

Troup County, Athens and areas south of Athens could pick up showers as schools start to dismiss for the day and northeast Georgia could get showers during rush hour. However, the wet weather won’t be widespread, according to Channel 2.

While showers and storms are expected in central Georgia and south of the I-20 corridor, there is only a 20 percent chance of rain in metro Atlanta.
