While Tuesday night’s stormy weather may be behind the area for now, metro Atlanta could get rain and chilly temperatures Thursday.

“It’s going to be cold overnight,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said Wednesday. “We’ll stay dry overnight into tomorrow morning, but temperatures are headed down into the 30s.”

There is an 80 percent chance of scattered showers Thursday afternoon.

“It’s likely you’re going to see some wet weather, but not all day,” Nitz said. “Even here at midday, the bulk of the rain is back toward the west. But we’ll have a mostly cloudy sky through the morning [and] into the early afternoon hours.”

Through the afternoon and into the evening, metro Atlanta will see more in the way of showers, Nitz said.

Strong winds and some property damage Wednesday were the only lasting signs of the Tuesday night storms that swept through metro Atlanta.

Decatur resident Ebdleziz Gartela was forced to leave his home overnight after a tree crashed through his apartment unit on Treecrest Parkway, according to Channel 2.

Gartela, planning to stay with friends, said someone then came in and stole his computer, TV and cellphone.

Temperatures were 50 degrees in Atlanta, 37 degrees in Blairsville and 51 degrees in Griffin just after 2:30 p.m.

Highs are expected to climb to the upper 50s Thursday and Friday and increase to the mid-60s this weekend, Minton said.
