The summer of 2016 goes down as Atlanta’s second-hottest ever. And the future looks even hotter.

Most Atlantans can relate to temperatures this summer hitting 90 degrees or higher. Less known, but potentially of greater significance, is the number of days in a row when the low temperature didn't fall below 70 degrees.

Atlanta registered a record 73 days with temps above 70, according to the University of Georgia and the National Weather Service. The heat, finally, broke Saturday.

Keep the A.C. handy, though. One recent study predicts that by the year 2100, Atlanta will succumb to 94 days when the high temperature is at or above 95 degrees. Current average: seven days.

“How ready are people to face three months of 95-degree weather?” a climate scientist asks.
