Aaron Hernandez, the former NFL player who took his own life in April while serving a life sentence for murder, was found to have advanced signs of the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

Hernandez’s attorney, Jose Baez, announced the news Thursday at a press conference.
