When it comes to sibling traditions, this one is pretty cool: Holly Peeples, Kandi Murphy and Kristen Bisanz — sisters from Toccoa — finished The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race together for the fourth year in a row on this Fourth of July.

“It was the best one ever,” Peeples said after the race. “We ran most of it.”

Peeples, 46, and Murphy, 38, both live in Toccoa and Bisanz, 34, drove in from North Carolina for the race.

Peeples normally collects a load of free stuff during the race, but she came away empty-handed this time.

“That’s what happens when you run. You don’t stop to get stuff,” Peeples said as her sisters cracked up.

They all said they didn’t mind the pouring rain — especially Murphy. When it rained two years ago, she muddied her brand-new, $150 running shoes, but she had a solution this year. Two white, plastic Sports Authority bags covered her shoes as she stood in the swampy, wet and walked-all-over Piedmont Park after the race.

Unfortunately, they didn’t spend too much time together after crossing the finish line this year, as Bisanz had to be back in Raleigh for work Monday.

“I know, right? I’m here just for this,” Bisanz said, disappointed but laughing with her sisters.

But they’ll be back again next year, and they hope to be back every year for as long as they can stand.

“We may book our hotel tonight,” Peeples said.
