Connor Thompson, a four-year student manager on Allatoona’s boys basketball squad,  never thought he’d get a chance to hit the floor for a game, much less make a shot.

But Buccaneers coach Markus Hood talked to Thompson’s parents two weeks ago and hatched a plan to have Thompson dress out for the first time in his four-year career for Senior Night.

After letting his senior players get one last home ovation, Hood sent Thompson into the game.  Thompson didn’t make a shot during warmups. “He is hard-pressed to make lay-ups,” said Hood.

But off an in-bounds play with seconds left, the Bucs got the ball to Thompson who heaved up a 3-pointer and the shot went in.

“It was great,” said Hood. “I can’t tell you how many tears were shed in the place. It was divine intervention."
