Todd Holcomb of Georgia High School Football Daily lists fees for five local high school sports.

1. Archer softball, $135

The school won its second consecutive state fast-pitch championship this spring. Like many schools now, Archer offers a PayPal option for credit-card payments online for what it calls “player package fees.” The fee helps cover a wide range of softball expenses.

2. Lambert baseball, $1,000

It’s expensive to travel out of state. Lambert spent five days in Bradenton, Fla., during the spring break to play a showcase event against top Florida teams. These fees are charged to the 40-plus players in the program, not just varsity members. The money helps offset costs for travel and equipment.

3. North Cobb soccer, $335

If you want a uniform, you’ll need to help pay for it. The fee pays for two jerseys, two shorts, warm-up pants, a soccer bag, two practice T-shirts and socks. Players can keep the T-shirts and socks, but must return uniforms at the end of the season.

4. Stephenson football, $450

Stephenson’s Touchdown Club calls them Jaguar Fees. The first $300 was due in April, the rest by June 30. The registration packet includes two practice T-shirts, two practice shorts, a practice jersey with the player’s name, banquet activity tickets and pregame meals. The booster club offers fundraising opportunities or scholarships for those who need help.

5. Walton cheerleading, $744.75

Cheerleading often is cited as the most expensive school sport. Walton spells it out to parents at tryouts — $300 mandatory camp, $175 booster-club dues, $20 uniform and warmup rental, $40 uniform rental, $6.75 bloomers, $50 shoes, $5 socks, $35 sweatshirt, $50 megaphone and $42 jersey, $10 headband, gloves and ribbons. Competition cheerleaders pay another $45 per month in gym fees.
