Four Georgia Tech teams earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for their superior academic performance. The women’s cross country team, the men’s swimming and diving team, the volleyball team and the golf team all ranked in the top 10 percent of their respective sports for Academic Progress Rate, the NCAA standard that measures eligibility, graduation and retention rate.

The golf team earned its 12th consecutive award, one for every year that the NCAA has handed out the honors. Among power-conference schools, coach Bruce Heppler’s team is just one of 14 in any sport that has been honored all 12 years.

The men’s swimming and diving team earned its fourth in a row. The volleyball team has received the award two years in a row and four times overall. The women’s cross country team has been recognized four times overall.

The football team, which earned its third award last year, fell short.

The four teams earning recognition is tied for second most that Tech has earned in a single year.

The APR score covers a four-year period. This year’s scores were based on the 2012-13 through 2015-16 academic years.
