Georgia State unveiled new football uniforms Friday.
With two different colors of helmets, two jerseys and three pairs of pants, the team will have 12 combinations to choose from. The Panthers open their season Aug. 30 against Samford at the Georgia Dome.
The new helmet is dark gray and features “Panthers” in blue and white script. The team will use the blue helmet it used the first three seasons for its homecoming game against Troy on Oct. 12.
The jerseys are blue with white letters outlined in black, or white with blue letters outlined in black. Blue will be worn at home and white on the road.
The pants are blue, white or dark gray and feature a Panthers head on the left hip.
The uniform is from Nike’s Combat line and is supposed to fit better than did Georgia State’s old uniform, which already was tabbed for replacement because it was at or near the end of its life cycle.
The new line costs $127,222, $58,500 more than the old line, with the majority ($30,000) spent on helmets. The jerseys cost $15,000 and the pants $13,500. The extra cost was covered through donations. That total includes reconditioning the blue helmets and shoulder pads and replacing other equipment used in practices or games.
The new line isn’t yet available at the school’s bookstore or website. Georgia State is in the process of determining availability.
