The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has come to the Hawks.
Kent Bazemore, who agreed to a free-agent contract with the Hawks this summer, issued the challenge Sunday to new teammate Al Horford, former Lakers teammate Nick Young and actor Kevin Spacey.
Bazemore took the challenge himself and then sent out the following Twitter post attached to the video of him having a bucket of ice water dumped over his head: “#als bucket challenge! I nominate (@al_horford) @swaggyp1 (@kevinspacey) You have 24 hours to complete this!! Or donate $2500 to ALS research!!”
Later Sunday afternoon, Horford accepted the challenge via Twitter. Sunday night he posted a video of himself getting doused and challenged Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer and teammates Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has recently swept the nation as a way to bring awareness and donations to help fight the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The challenge is to pour a bucket of ice water over one’s head and challenge others do the same or make a donation to fight ALS within 24 hours.
Several Braves players and Falcons coach Mike Smith recently completed the challenge and had video posted on social media.
