Buckhead owes huge debt to rest of Atlanta

Buckhead is in the news showing the world what genteel racism looks like. I grew up in Buckhead. Even then, Buckhead was an affluent area whose residents looked down their noses at others. Churches were still segregated back then.

Buckhead has been happy to exploit those in other parts of the city for their cheap labor. Some workers could spend two hours or more taking buses and walking to their employer’s houses.

Buckhead owes a huge debt to the rest of Atlanta. Remember who built your houses and paved your streets. Remember who cleans your homes and trims your yards. These people go back to their homes and apartments, which they can barely afford these days. Their children are denied a good education because their districts are starved for resources.

Crime is rampant because injustice and inequity are getting worse every day. Buckhead needs to stay a part of Atlanta because Buckhead needs Atlanta just like Atlanta needs Buckhead.

Regents’ lax COVID policies endangering welfare of others

A recent letter writer was concerned about the “rights” of students when a college professor required them to wear masks in class. I have a number of friends who are professors at schools in the state’s university system. Every day they enter classrooms and do their jobs while putting their health and maybe their lives at risk from those students who will not wear a mask and/or refuse to be vaccinated. It is beyond shameful that our Board of Regents and our governor choose to follow politics rather than science and medicine when making decisions that impact all of us in general and those in the university system in particular. I’m fed up with their attitudes. They can cost human lives, cost taxpayers and endanger the welfare of others. I truly wish I could find a way to sue the Board of Regents. If ignorance is bliss, they are surely some of the happiest people in the state.
