While America ranks as one of the most generous countries in the world, according to the World Giving Index, some U.S. states are more charitable than others.

WalletHub recently conducted a study to determine which states give back the most. To do so, researchers compared the 50 states using 18 key indicators of "charitable behavior," including charities per capita, volunteer rate and percentage of donated income. Those metrics were then categorized into two major sections: volunteering and service as well as charitable giving.
Minnesota and Utah took the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, but Georgia wasn’t too far behind at No. 7.
The Peach State made the top 10 thanks to its high charitable giving ranking. It was No. 2 on that list. It was also No. 1 for the highest percentage of donated income, tying with Utah.
Overall, the East Coast was the most charitable, with New York (No. 3), Maryland (No. 4), Connecticut (No. 5) and Virginia (No. 6) rounding out the top 10.
On the other hand, the West Coast and some of the southern states were the least charitable. Louisiana (No. 47), Arizona (No. 48) and Nevada (No. 50) all fell to the bottom of the list.
