The company recently announced it will offer a new subscription service that will allow publishers to share 10 free articles a month before users are prompted to sign up for a paid subscription with the platform.

The payment and financial details have not been disclosed just yet, but all subscriber data will be controlled by the publisher.

According to The Street, Campbell Brown, Facebook's head of news partnerships, confirmed the news at a recent industry conference in New York.

"One of the things we heard in our initial meetings from many newspapers and digital publishers is that 'we want a subscription product -- we want to be able to see a paywall in Facebook,'" Brown said. "And that is something we're doing now. We are launching a subscription product."

No word yet on when the service will become available, but Facebook is hoping to begin testing in October.
