With the rod sticking out of his head and blood gushing, Adam Armitage calmly walked into a gas station and asked for help.

"It was really like, 'Is this a TV show, is this guy for real?'" station owner Lester Gray told The Telegraph.

It looked like a Halloween stunt where people wear those Halloween costumes over their heads," Gray continued. "But it was pretty real when he turned around, and the blood was coming down the side of his head."

While holding the rod in his head still, Armitage, explained he was attacked. He asked the clerk to call police and medical personnel.

Dylan Shea watched Armitage walk in.

"He was pretty calm. He wasn't freaking out or anything,” Shea said. "He said he knew his first aid, and so he didn't try and rip it out."

Armitage was taken to a hospital where the rod was removed. He remains there in serious condition while cops look for his attacker.
