Now to be fair, the model potentially rolling out in 2015 is more a driving plane than a flying car.
Still, at the low-low cost of $279,000, you can have a light aircraft with folding wings that you drive to the airport. (Via Terrafugia)
Terrafugia's CEO Carl Dietrich called the potential benefit of a flying car tremendous and told Tech Radar the global impact "has been estimated by the non-profit CAFE Foundation at approximately $800 billion/year. NASA has estimated it at $1 trillion/year." (Via Tech Radar)
Sounds pretty ambitious, but alright.
Much further down the road, Terrafugia says it has another model called the TF-X in the works that has a vertical liftoff. The company expects development to take 8-12 years, so you'll have to wait awhile on that Hollywood-like breakthrough. (Via Terrafugia)
