A man was killed after several cars hit him early Tuesday on the southbound Downtown Connector at 10th Street, Atlanta police said.

The cars hit the pedestrian, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office early Friday as Kevin Jordan, just before 4 a.m. as he walked in an HOV lane.

Jordan, 53, of Atlanta, was dead when police got to the scene, police said.

“The drivers of two different vehicles had pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and advised the responding officer that they had struck the male who was walking in the lane of traffic on the interstate,” Officer Donald Hannah told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The deadly accident blocked southbound lanes for nearly two hours, forced traffic off the Connector at Atlantic Station and caused early delays through Midtown, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Southbound lanes reopened just before 5:50 a.m., the Traffic Center reported.

Authorities have not indicated why Jordan was walking on the interstate.
