Three children and six adults were injured when a car hit a tractor-trailer and triggered a chain-reaction crash involving four other vehicles on I-75 North in Marietta, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
About 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, a white Honda Civic heading north on the interstate tried to change lanes and instead struck the tractor-trailer, authorities said. The impact of the crash sent the Honda spinning counterclockwise into a concrete barrier before the car came to a stop in the middle of the interstate.
At that point, a box truck stopped to avoid hitting the Honda, which was inoperable, the GSP said.
However, a minivan hit the box truck, causing it to hit the Honda, authorities said.
Another tractor-trailer heading north on I-75 stopped to avoid the Honda and a third tractor-trailer hit the back of the truck, according to the GSP.
The children were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, and everyone else was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, the GSP said.
None of the injuries were life-threatening.
“Charges are pending,” the GSP said.
The crash temporarily blocked several lanes at Delk Road and triggered delays back before I-285, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. But they thinned after all lanes opened just before 7:50 a.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
