1. Night 2 of the Republican National Convention. Donald Trump was formally nominated for president. The Trump children gave well-received remarks. Chris Christie got everyone excited about putting Hillary Clinton in jail. And Paul Ryan tried to get everyone to sing kumbaya. [Read here]
2. Georgia governor considers raises for police. Gov. Nathan Deal said Tuesday he's considering a legislative package next year that could include more pay for state police officers as well as a new training regimen for law enforcement authorities in the aftermath of violence and unrest in the nation's streets. 3. Braves beat Reds 5-4. Rookie right-hander Tyrell Jenkins put the Braves in an early hole against the Reds but they immediately came back to forge a tie. Gordon Beckham's home run gave the Braves a two-run lead in the seventh inning, but right-hander Jim Johnson blew it in the ninth. After all of that, the Braves finally found a way to win. 4. Atlanta mayor promises response to Black Lives Matter. Mayor Kasim Reed and a Black Lives Matter organizer got into a heated discussion at a town hall event Tuesday. Roughly 100 people came to the Channel 2 Action News "Atlanta Unite" town hall, which brought together community leaders and Atlanta officials following weeks of protests over shooting deaths by police. Reed was presented with 25 demands Monday and said he'll respond within seven to 15 days. [Read here]
