Q: What do military veterans need other than their driver’s license to renew their license?
—Gerald Hachey, Jonesboro
A: Veterans can have a free driver's license or ID with a Certificate of Eligibility/DS516 that can be received from taking DD214 Discharge Papers to the State Department of Veterans Services.
If you don’t have a gold star on the top right corner of your license, you also will need to take other required documents to the Department of Driver Services to prove your identity, Social Security number and proof of residence.
These documents include your U.S. passport or birth certificate (to prove identity) and Social Security card, and two items that prove proof of residence.
These include a utility bill, financial statement, an unexpired driver’s license or state-issued ID, paycheck and paycheck stubs, among other documents (issued within the past two years), which can be found on the DDS website at www.dds.ga.gov/secureid/index.aspx.
“DDS will be able to issue the veteran free licenses and/or IDs for life,” a DDS spokeswoman told Q&A on the News in an email.

It has 14 piers and 11 hangars to support 75 ships and 134 aircraft, Military.com wrote in its Base Guide.
The United States’ Atlantic Fleet is headquartered there and Naval Station Norfolk also is the Defense Department’s largest supply center.
