Q: On an episode of “Leave it to Beaver,” called “Beaver’s House Guest,” Beaver had a friend named Chopper spend the night. A few days earlier, I saw an episode of “Barney Miller” called “Computer Crime.” In that episode, a man stole more than $500,000 from his employer. Did the actor who played Chopper also play Mr. Stein?
—Donald Varn, Conyers
A: Veteran actor Barry Gordon played both Chopper in a 1960 episode of "Leave It to Beaver" and a character named Stanley Fine in a 1979 episode of "Barney Miller."
Gordon, 67, appeared in several shows as a child in the 1950s, including “Make Room for Daddy,” “Philip Marlowe,” “Dennis the Menace” and “The Jack Benny Program.”
He’s appeared in many other TV shows, including “The New Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Fish,” “Archie Bunker’s Place,” “ER” and “L.A. Law.”
Gordon also is known as a voice actor and provided the voice of Donatello and Bebop in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” for the long-running TV series.
He was president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1988 to 1995.
