Q: I was watching a TV commercial for a product called SodaStream that they claimed it was so delicious you’ll drink 43 percent more water. Where did SodaStream come up with 43 percent?
—David Dickey, Dallas
A: The number was provided by Toluna, a research company that surveyed 3,680 adults from Nov. 2-8, 2014.
The online survey found that 43 percent of Americans “consume” more water and “water-based drinks than those without a SodaStream.”
SodaStreamusa.com states that an average adult in the United States drinks an average of 9.5 glasses of water a day with the product, compared to 6.7 glasses without it.
SodaStream uses a carbonator and flavor packs to turn regular water into sparkling water.
