Q: I hope the Georgia Department of Transportation had the foresight to design the new interchange being constructed at Ga. 316 and Ga. 20 in Lawrenceville as a diverging diamond. Can you provide the details of this project?

—Joe Anderson, Snellville

A: The DOT's $37.4 million project at Ga. 316 and Ga. 20 will be a split diamond interchange that will allow traffic from 316 to access 20 and Collins Hill Road using a system of long ramps. It has been described as being similar to the interchange of long ramps along Interstate 85, from Ga. 120 to Pleasant Hill Road. The project will include 2.23 miles of new roadway, five new signals and two bridges over 316. It will " improve safety and efficiency by separating opposing traffic with an interchange and improve capacity by extending limited access east of SR 20," stated a DOT release. It is scheduled to be finished by Dec. 31, 2014.

Q: There is what looks like a billboard in an ad for 11 Alive, narrated by Andrew Young. The billboard depicts a fabulous image of Martin Luther King Jr. Is this a real billboard? And, if so, where is it located?

—Linda Williams, Duluth

A: That sculpture in the ad for WXIA (11 Alive) is called "Homage to King" and depicts him with outstretched arms. Spanish artist Xavier Medina-Campeny created the sculpture from plate steel, and it was brought to Atlanta as part of the Olympic Cultural Exchange prior to the 1996 Summer Games. It's located at the southwest corner of Boulevard and Freedom Parkway, near the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site.
