Q: I understand Fulton County has an election committee. I would like to know who is on it, how they got on it and how they get paid.

—Paul Robinson, Atlanta

A: The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections has five seats. Each board member is appointed to a two-year term.

Appointments are made by the chair of the Fulton County legislative delegation (one member), Republican chairperson of the county executive committee (two members) and Democratic chairperson of the county executive committee (two members).

The current members are: Mary Carole Cooney (chairperson), Vernetta Nuriddin (vice chair, Democrat), Aaron Johnson (Democrat) and David J. Burge (Republican).

The term for board member Stan Matarazzo (Republican) expired on June 30 of this year. Mark Wingate, appointed by the Republican chairperson of the county executive committee, will be sworn-in at the next meeting on July 13, a county spokeswoman told Q&A on the News.

Burge’s term also expired June 30, and he received a full board reappointment for another two-year term, according to Fulton County documents.

Board members receive a stipend of $50 per meeting.

The board holds meetings on the second Thursday of each month, as well as special meetings on election night and to verify election results, according to the Fulton County Government website.

The board’s meetings are open to the public.
