Religious freedom is everywhere one looks
Regarding the guest column, “Monument reflects our religious liberty” (Opinion, March 27), if someone wanted to see not only one, but many monuments to our religious liberty, all they would have to do is take a short drive across Ga. 120 from downtown Duluth to the old courthouse in Lawrenceville and marvel at both the number and diversity of the places of worship along the way. That short stretch of road is not unique, and I submit that wherever one travels in this country, they can see similar “monuments” that tell any visitor from another land that religious freedom is alive and well in this great country.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Obama handles world conflicts the right way
According to Charles Krauthammer (“Obama’s missteps leave world a dangerous place,” Opinion, March 28), the way to achieve peace in the world is for one nation to puff up its chest, break out the whip and impose its will on all the others. Any wars that need be fought as a result of this stance could be thought of as keeping the peace. Telling other countries what to do, making sure they know we think we are the best country, calling them “evil” and starting unnecessary wars all fit neatly in this paradigm.
The solution is not to go in the opposite direction and become a doormat, but to exhibit strength and strong boundaries while simultaneously showing respect for others, and understanding that it’s just not all about us. Obama is accomplishing this balancing act in his foreign policy. I feel safer with him at the helm. Good job, Mr. President.

MEDIA
Left-wing leanings are a threat to democracy
Obama’s statement that he wants to “fundamentally change America” was never questioned by the national media. The function of the mainstream media is to be advocates for those of us who feel our voices are not being heard, at every level of government. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The media is disproportionately dominated by the political left-of-center, making it virtually impossible to present a fair analysis of the news. A news media that supports any particular ideology to such a degree is a threat to our democracy.

SCIENCE
One theory may catch everyone off guard
I was stunned at the irony of Eric Bruce’s comment regarding the Big Bang Theory (“Don’t give credence to unproven theory,” Readers write, March 28). He called it “an unproven and unprovable” theory, then includes a Bible quote about God laying the foundations of Earth. There is not a more unproven and unprovable theory than that of God’s existence. Science looks for answers to the mysteries of the universe, and welcomes new evidence that improves our understanding of why things are the way they are. People of faith cling to their beliefs in spite of evidence to the contrary. Eventually, maybe God will be found as the instigator of the Big Bang. Wouldn’t that blow all our minds?
