Back-to-school solicitations too much

After a month of stores asking me to donate money for back-to-school supplies and organizations wanting to “Stuff The Bus” with backpacks, I’ve about had it! And then I read in an article about having five boxes of crayons in case one breaks and buying tennis balls to attach to the bottom of chair legs to reduce the sound of moving desks. With all the school supplies kids are supposed to go back to school with, let me ask a few questions: First of all, when was the last time you ever used up one pencil or your child used up every crayon in the Crayola box or wore out a backpack? What’s with the tennis balls? What exactly are the kids learning anyway? Oh yeah, free stuff and they won’t have to ” want for anything.”

Party loyalty not a virtue this year

If this was a normal election year, I would seriously consider voting for Senator Johnny Isakson, even though I usually vote for Democrats. He has been an effective senator for Georgia, and he is being endorsed by prominent Democrats whom I respect. But this is the year that we have a Republican presidential nominee who is obviously unqualified for the job.

I’d like to make it clear that nobody has asked Sen. Isakson to apologize for what Donald Trump has said or done, as the senator seems to have misconstrued. Rather, Rev. Warnock was asking him to renounce Donald Trump because Trump is unfit for office. By continuing to support the Republican nominee, Sen. Isakson has lost my respect and will certainly not get my vote. Someday, senator, you may be apologizing for something you indeed did — you may have helped Donald Trump get elected president, in the name of party loyalty.
