A 19-year-old Newnan man was found dead Friday morning, and police are looking for clues to determine who shot him.

After being flagged down around 6:45 a.m. by a person who said there was a body lying in a yard in the 100 block of Pinson Street, a Newnan police officer found the body of a man with blood-stained clothing. EMS officials who came to the scene discovered that the man had been shot more than once, Newnan police Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs said.

Officers identified the victim as Derrick Montez Johnson. Authorities searching the area around his body found a number of spent cartridges in the street.

Neighbors told police that multiple gunshots were heard in the area around 1 to 2 a.m., though no one reported seeing anyone in the area, Riggs said.
