Barack Obama’s half-brother Malik has endorsed Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States because the Republican presidential nominee “speaks from the heart” and has a great slogan, among other things.

"I like Donald Trump because he speaks from the heart," Malik Obama, 58, told the New York Post. "'Make America Great Again' is a great slogan. I would like to meet him."

The Democratic president's half-brother, a lifelong Democrat, also said the Republican Party’s stance on gay marriage has influenced his endorsement.

“I feel like a Republican now because they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me,” he said. “That’s personal.”

“Mr. Trump is providing something new and something fresh,” Obama went on.

Trump was quick to crow about the news story, saying Malik had probably been treated poorly by the president “like everybody else.”
