A man charged with murder in the death of his fiance, a Rockdale County elementary school teacher, has been granted bond of $100,000 in a DeKalb County court.

Antione Hood, 30, is charged with killing Candace McGriff, 28, who taught at C.J. Hicks Elementary in Conyers.

Hood had reported that McGriff had committed suicide, police said

Police were called to McGriff’s home in Lithonia on Feb. 17, where, according to the police report, Hood and a female neighbor were standing outside the residence. Hood directed the officers toward the rear bedroom where they found McGriff who had a bullet wound to her chest.

Hood told police he was attempting to leave McGriff, who told him she would shoot herself to prevent him from doing so, the report said.
