A Cherokee County man allegedly wanted to rescue a black lab mix that had been taken to the local shelter.

But instead of waiting for the pup to be put up for adoption, Jason Lacy broke into the shelter by breaking the glass on the back door Tuesday, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office. Only one dog was missing, and the animal was located at Lacy’s Woodstock home, Baker said.

“Investigators determined that Lacy found out the dog had been taken to the shelter and he wanted the dog,” Baker said in an emailed statement. “Lacy admitted to entering the shelter and taking the dog.”

The dog previously belonged to Lacy’s neighbors, who were unable to continue caring for the dog and took it to the shelter Saturday so that it could be put up for adoption, Baker said.

Lacy, 38, was arrested and charged with one count of burglary. He was released after posting $11,200 bond, Baker said.
