The Woodstock City Council has approved a temporary alcohol permit for Georgia Zombie Fest as the event moves this year from Canton.

The fifth annual Zombie Fest will run from noon to 9 p.m., Oct. 21, at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater in downtown Woodstock. Admission is $5 for adults, $20 for families with up to six people, and free for children 11 and under. (A Zombie Fest 5K walk/run is scheduled for the week before, Oct. 14, at Etowah River Park, Canton.)

About 10,000 people are expected to attend what the event application to the city describes as a “non-profit zombie-themed fund-raiser geared toward families.” Vendors, food trucks, food/beverage tents, children’s inflatables, live music, a deejay and costume contests are planned.

Zombie Fest’s organizer, Cherokee Families of Cherokee United in Service is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that supports such programs as Cherokee Youth Works, Drug Free Cherokee, the Hotel to Home homeless initiative and Volunteer Cherokee.
