Using comprehensive data from the U.S. Census, Department of Education, FBI and more, Niche.com assessed the overall livability of an area for its "2017 Best Suburbs to Live in America" ranking.

To come up with the list, analysts assessed 4,875 suburbs in the U.S. and considered several key factors such as cost of living, crime rates, quality of local schools, employment and access to amenities.

For the first time, analysts also incorporated millions of reviews from residents about their community.

Niche defines a suburb as “a place located within a Census-defined urbanized area, but outside the principal city with a population of at least 1,000.”

On top of its best suburbs ranking, the company also created lists for best cities, neighborhoods, places and counties.

With an overall A+ Niche grade and an A+ in public schools and good for families categories, as well as in commute and diversity, the city of Decatur ranked No. 1 among 100 Georgia suburbs and No. 26 nationally.

That’s a big jump for the DeKalb suburb from No. 63 in the nation last year.
