Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques said the city forged ahead on multiple fronts in 2015, in part because of decisions made in the depths of the Great Recession.

In his annual State of the City address, Henriques touted economic progress ranging from the opening of 21 new businesses, creating almost 200 jobs, to establishment of an Economic Development Innovation Center. He also cited new commercial and residential developments totaling $200 million in value.

The groundwork for progress was laid in 2009-2011, when the city took such steps as buying the City Center civic complex downtown, the city hall annex and land for intersection improvements. He said future challenges range from resolving parking issues downtown and transportation issues to expanding the city trail system.
