Work is to begin July 9 to improve the looks of South Main Street from Oak to Fowler streets in downtown Woodstock.

The South Main Streetscapes Transportation Enhancement Project continues the streetscape work completed in 2010, officials said. Construction will go from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is to be finished by April 2019. Downtown visitors will continue to have access to all businesses on Main.

The Oak to Fowler stretch of Main will have the same look and feel as the Towne Lake Parkway to Oak portion, with an 8-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side, a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side along the Georgia Northeastern Railroad track, and decorative brick pavers and planters, officials said.

The street also will get benches, trash cans, decorative street lights, trees (on the east side), curbs, gutters, a resurfacing, new striping and 12 parking spaces.

Hours of work may vary depending on holidays, the weather and special events. The traffic impact should be minimal, officials said. Information: 770-592-6000.
