Woodstock and the Greenprints Alliance, a local nonprofit that advocates for trails, have announced plans for a new park encompassing more than 100 acres on Trickum Road on the east side of town.

“The topography of the property is suitable for a passive park with amenities including trails, pavilions and playgrounds,” said Preston Pooser, Woodstock parks and recreation director. “We are eager to hear from local residents and other stakeholders at our upcoming public input meeting.”

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Dec. 4, in the chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St.

The as-yet unnamed park will consist of 40.7 acres already owned by Woodstock east of Trickum, 36.3 acres recently acquired by Greenprints on the north side of the Little River, and 24.4 acres being purchased by the city nearby. The City Council approved the land acquisition at its Oct. 23 meeting.

The site would have a multi-use trail on part of the land and possibly a canoe launch, preserving open space and protecting the Little and Etowah river basins, officials said.
