After nearly a year of extensive contruction, Fulton County government leadership and members of the West End Atlanta community will gather this week to officially reopen the West End branch of the Fulton County Library System.

A grand re-opening is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26 at the library, 525 Peeples Street SW,Atlanta.

The West End Library is the third library in Phase II of the Library Building Program to re-open, since construction began in late summer of 2018. The West End Library is a 7,517 square foot facility. The renovations consist of upgrades to the building envelope including a new roof and new windows, upgrades to the Technology and MEP systems is also included.

In addition to this, the plan for the West End Library promotes walkability by creating a new accessible sidewalk from Peeples St. The Library also benefits from refreshed finishes and new exterior windows inspired by the neighborhood’s iconic “Blocks of Culture” banner. A new study room and a community resource room allow for uninterrupted work, consultation or tutoring and feature technology for presentations and small group work. A movable partition allows for flexible meeting space to accommodate larger groups for meetings or story-time events.

The improvements to the West End Library will allow for patrons and residents of the city of Atlanta’s West End neighborhood and beyond to continue their use of the library as a community gathering space, educational centerpiece and technology and information hub. In addition to the various library services, the library has partnered with the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture to install public art throughout the library, as part of Fulton County’s commitment to supporting the arts in every County facility.

The celebration will include a program in the library’s new community meeting room, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new library, as well as light refreshments for guests. Residents will have the opportunity to test out all the new technology and services, along with guided tours by library volunteers, during the grand re-opening celebration.
