Q: With the closing of Fort Gillem, what becomes of the Georgia Army National Guard Headquarters?

— Scott A. MacLean, Forest Park

A: The Georgia Army National Guard began the process of moving its headquarters to the Clay National Guard Center in Marietta when Fort Gillem was put on the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) list in 2005, MaryTherese Tebbe, the director of public affairs for the Georgia National Guard, told Q&A on the News. The Georgia Army National Guard and the Georgia Air National Guard are both headquartered at the Joint Forces Headquarters, which is adjacent to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. The Clay National Guard Center was named after Gen. Lucius D. Clay, who was from Marietta and was the mastermind of the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49. Forest Park is completing a deal to buy 1,170 acres of Fort Gillem for $30 million.

Q: Everybody is telling us that hybrid cars are the way to go, that we will save a lot on gasoline. Well, that's nice, but I don't hear anything about what the electricity is going to cost to power these hybrids. Is there any information available so the consumer can make an educated decision before purchasing a hybrid vehicle?

— Madeline Litt, Dunwoody

A: Magazines like Car and Driver, Road & Track and Motor Trend often review hybrid vehicles. Car and Driver has an online guide at buyersguide.caranddriver.com/budget-green/hybrid and Motor Trend has one at http://www.motortrend.com/new_cars/27/hybrid_cars/. HybridCars.com, a website dedicated to hybrid cars, has a page of articles at hybridcars.com/hybrid-research.
