Q: “Antiques Roadshow” is coming to Atlanta on Saturday. Where will it be held and what is the procedure there?
-- Petie Freeman, Roswell
A: The event is scheduled for the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. The ticket application deadline has passed, and individuals must have a ticket to attend the event. Tickets were made available to the public for free and have a time for admittance to the show throughout the day. Tickets are not available at the door, according to www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow. Each ticket holder must bring at least one item and up to two items. The event will have about 70 appraisers covering more than 20 categories, from folk art to furniture, according to the website. These items are not appraised: vehicles, stamps, paper currency, coins, bicycles, explosives or hazardous materials, fossils and glass fire extinguishers. All ticket holders should expect to wait in line for their turn with an appraiser. Verbal appraisals (not written) will be provided. Atlanta is one of six cities on this year's "Antiques Roadshow" tour. Appraisals taped at the event will be part of the new season of "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS, starting in January 2012. Experts with "Antiques Roadshow" see about 600 people per hour, according to the website; more than 5,000 people are seen and more than 10,000 items are appraised per event.
