Q: When there is a tie for first place in a golf tournament, as at the PGA Championship, how do they break down the payouts? Does the golfer who wins the playoff get first-place money and does the person who loses the playoff get second-place money? When multiple people are tied, how is the money distributed?

—Richard Morris, Newnan

A:Keegan Bradley, who defeated Jason Dufner in a playoff at the 93rd PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek on Aug. 14, won $1.4million for winning the event. Dufner, even though he finished the tournament tied with Bradley, lost the playoff to officially finish second, which was worth a $865,000 payout. Anders Hansen was third and won $545,000, and there was a three-way tie for fourth between Robert Karlsson, David Toms and Scott Verplank, so each player won $331,000.
