In a recent note to residents, Berkeley Lake Mayor Lois Salter stated, “I have been asked by the U.S. Census Bureau to let you know that they are seeking to fill temporary positions with “excellent pay and flexible hours.”
The purpose of each ten-year census is to count the population and housing and disseminate the results to the President, the states, and the American people. According the census bureau website, “A primary use is for the apportionment of seats allocated to the states for the House of Representatives as mandated in the United States Constitution.” Census data is also used for redistricting (defining the representative boundaries for congressional districts, state legislative districts, school districts, and voting precincts), enforcing voting rights and civil rights legislation, and determining the addresses for future census bureau surveys. “The goal of the 2020 Census is to count everyone once, only once, and in the right place.”
