Update: Atlanta (Fulton)

Susan Cobb hopes something can be done about a missing trash can.

“I live in West End, and West End Neighborhood Development invested in landscaping the Joseph E. Lowery islands and the clock tower near and at the corner of Joseph E. Lowery and Oak Street. We are proud of the visual improvements, however loiterers are leaving trash behind the sign, on the sidewalk, and in the street, marring the landscaping that was done,” Cobb said.

She said a city installed trash can was originally at the corner of the clock tower site, but it disappeared shortly after the landscaping was completed.

“We’ve contacted our City Council representative about replacing the trash can at least three times, but haven’t had any response. We know the trash can won’t solve all the trash problems, but it will help,” she added.

In regards to addressing litter along the corridor, the Department of Public Works has been in contact with Council Member Winslow to discuss community partnerships to assist the city with this matter. “DPW will work to address the maintenance of the city’s right-of-ways,” wrote Michael Frierson, public relations manager for the Department of Public Works.

We sent the item to the city, who said they would check to see if the item had finally been resolved.

A reader has an issue with a busy state highway in Woodstock.

“Hwy. 92 in Woodstock has a number of intersections that now use a blinking yellow light for the turn lane which has helped the flow of traffic. At the intersection of Wigley Road and Hwy. 92 there is a serious situation that could become a deadly situation if not addressed,” wrote Debbie McKeen.

She said the intersection is used by many motorists for a U-turn as residents that need to travel east have only a westward exit from their subdivisions and neighborhoods.

“The problem is when a resident tries to perform a U-turn the drivers coming from Wigley Road make a right-hand turn without stopping or yielding to the drivers on Hwy. 92. This causes the driver on Hwy. 92 to stop – in mid turn – leaving themselves exposed to a possible collision by the cars traveling eastbound on Hwy. 92. We simply ask that a ‘no right turn on red sign’ be installed on Wigley before an accident occurs,” she said.

We sent the item to the DOT and will keep you updated.
