Update-DeKalb County

In early May, we told you about a resident’s concern over a traffic signal.

“When traveling southbound on Oak Grove Road, a left-turn signal is needed to facilitate left turns onto LaVista Road. This is because oncoming northbound traffic from Oak Grove Drive is persistent during peak traffic times and causes would-be left-turners to wait through several light changes to make the turn,” wrote Mark Rivkin.

We heard back from DeKalb County.

“We submitted a traffic study to GDOT recommending the addition of a left-turn signal for southbound Oak Grove Road. We have also started work on the signal plan for that. GDOT will need to approve because LaVista is a state highway,” said the county’s chief communications officer Burke Brennan.

New item-Atlanta

Jerod Dubner has an issue with a scruffy sidewalk. Dubner sent pictures of the sidewalk on the north side of 10th Street on the south edge of Piedmont Park.

“This is across from 371 10th Street and 337 10th Street. I contacted the city of Atlanta and reported the issue with the sidewalk across from 337 10th Street months ago. Nothing has been done about this situation. It is a hazard for pedestrians,” he wrote.

We sent the issue to the city and will let you know when it is fixed.

New item-DeKalb County

Marie Majors hopes an overgrown section of the county can be cleaned up.

“A year ago - maybe more by this time - I read an item in your column that thrilled me. Someone had written in to complain about an overgrown section of Bennington Drive here in Belvedere Park. The road portion mentioned was the stretch between Glen Forest Way and Richard Road. The writer pointed out that vegetation had been allowed to grow for so long over the asphault that trees and small shrubs were actually growing where the outer edges of the road were once visible,” she wrote.

She said Dekalb County never did anything to resolve this issue.

“It’s even worse than it was those many months ago. Now, there’s another stretch of Bennington that’s becoming overgrown, just to the west, midway between Glen Forest Way and Midway Road. This stretch is on its way to becoming as bad as the first section mentioned,” she added.

We sent her request to the county.
