New item-Atlanta
A reader wants to know about maintaining sidewalk clearance in the city.
“Who is responsible for the clearing of sidewalks in our city? I am a walker and am so grateful for the sidewalks, but some of them are not walkable they are so overgrown and trashed…..specifically, the sidewalk starting where Loridans Drive comes into Wieuca Road all the way to the street where Wieuca ends. It is so overgrown, you have to walk out in the street to get through,” the reader asked.
We sent the item to city officials who pledged to check on the item.

New item-Clairmont Road
Tom Adams is concerned over a new development on Clairmont Road.
“There is a new development in the 1400 block of Clairmont Road. They dug into Clairmont Road at the intersection with Claremont Circle, just north of North Decatur Road and south of the VA Hospital. They put steel plates over the place where they dug. They have been on for over a year!” Adams wrote.
We sent the issue to the DOT and got a quick response.
“We are aware of the plates on Clairmont Road. We are working with DeKalb County to remove the plate and resurface this section of Clairmont Road,” wrote a DOT communications officer.

New item-Interstate highways
Gould Hagler wants something done about confusing signs on the region’s expressways.
“Many exits on metro Atlanta expressways are two-lane exits. In some cases, both lanes must exit. In other cases only the rightmost lane is exit only, and other lane has an option to exit or to continue straight.
In many cases the signage is incorrect. The signs overhead clearly say “EXIT ONLY” for both lanes. In other cases the signs are correct, with the signs saying “EXIT ONLY” for the right lane and having arrows indicating that traffic in the other lane may either exit or continue straight. This looks dangerous to me.” he wrote.
Hagler sent a pic illustrating the confusion from I-285 East.
“I am in the second lane from the right. Sign tells me I am in an exit only lane, but I am also permitted to go straight and remain on 285,” he wrote.
