Technical college students transferring to a college in the University System of Georgia will be able to save time and money under action the State Board of Regents took Wednesday.
All of the system's 35 campuses will accept an additional 17 courses taught by schools in the Technical College System of Georgia. The new agreement means 27 courses will now be automatically accepted. The courses are part of the basic classes all students must take to earn a degree.
The agreement is part of an effort by both systems to provide a seamless transition when students transfer from one system to another, thereby making it easier for them to earn a degree.
When students transfer, colleges sometimes reject some credits because the courses don't match up with what is taught in their classrooms. When that happens, students must repeat courses and pay twice to learn the same material.
Nearly 4,600 students transfer from the technical system to university system each year.
