Stockbridge officials released a statement Nov. 15 indicating that the city would offer $100,000 to assist in the repairs needed for Cochran Park so that it could be reopened to host local youth baseball leagues.
The park was closed by the county in July for safety reasons after stormwater pipe issues were discovered that led to damage in the parking lot. County commissioner Bruce Holmes has advocated for the repurposing of the site as a passive park, while many in the community want the park repaired for athletic use.
A proposed master plan for a passive park failed to get the necessary support from the Henry County Board of Commissioners, and three members of that body met Nov. 12 with the Stockbridge City Council to discuss the matter further, including the possibility of the county giving the park to the city.
