Young girls in Atlanta will have an opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, careers at an event this weekend.

The event, called “Moore Girls in STEM EXPOsure,” is hosted by City Council President Felicia Moore, according to a news release from the city. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson STEM Activity Center on 275 Decatur Street in southeast Atlanta.

“Males continue to outnumber girls in STEM-related classes and careers,” she said in an emailed statement. “This event is a great way to spark a larger interest and confidence level for girls in these fields and help them acquire a new set of skills.”

Women make up 28% of the science and engineering workforce, according to the National Girls Collaborative Project which works to encourage girls to purse STEM careers.

The event is targeted toward elementary and middle-aged girls.
