The Georgia Department of Transportation would reimburse Cherokee County up to $104,960 in eligible costs to acquire right-of-way for a Canton Road sidewalk project under a contract recently approved by the county Board of Commissioners.
The sidewalk would extend 0.6 miles along the west side of Canton Road from the Cobb County line north to Stockwood Drive near Woodstock. A consultant, Moreland Altobelli, is preparing engineering design plans and completing the environmental document for the project, according to the county.
GDOT would reimburse the county after land is acquired, vacated and cleared and title is transferred to the state, the contract says. The county would have to certify that “all parcels are vacant and immediately available for construction purposes.”
Cherokee would be required to use state-approved appraisers; the state would have the power to review and approve appraisals and settlements; and the county would pay all legal costs.
