The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the location and design of new decorative mast arms, replacing the existing pole and wire-supported traffic signals at four intersections in downtown Austell in a continuing effort by city officials to improve the downtown appearance.
Sites are Powder Springs Street/Washington Street, U.S. 78/Jefferson Street, U.S. 78/Love Street and U.S. 78/Mulberry Street.
Three existing mast arms will remain in place at Jefferson Street/Jerkins Boulevard, Mulberry Street/Jerkins Boulevard and U.S. 78/Jerkins Boulevard and painted to match the new mast arms.
Existing light poles next to Jefferson, Love and Mulberry Streets also will be replaced with decorative light poles.
The project also will include the reconstruction of handicap ramps and street crossings where necessary - all in downtown Austell.
Drawings, maps or plats of the proposed project may be viewed at the Austell Public Works Department, 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Road, Suite 101.
