A Starbucks in Cumming remained closed Tuesday after a full-size pickup truck rammed through the front windows Monday afternoon -- the second time in two weeks the store has been hit by a vehicle.
Two male customers and the female driver suffered minor injuries.
The accident happened at 1:45 p.m. at the Starbucks at Market Place Boulevard and Ga. 20. On Feb. 1, a 66-year-old woman drove into the other side of the storefront.
"That one just broke out a few windows, but this incident did pretty significant damage," Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers told the AJC. "All the windows are held in by aluminum framing; this bent the aluminum, destroyed the two front doors and did heavy damage to part of the structural wall on the left. It's going to take a lot more to repair."
Cumming Police Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi told the Forsyth County News that the driver on Monday accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.
Shivers called the incidents "freak accidents."
"It's never happened as long as it's been there and all of a sudden we've had it twice," Shivers said. "It doesn't sit right on the road. It's got a parking lot in front of it. There's nowhere for people to get up their speed.
"It's just two freak accidents happening close to each other."
